Emotion-Focused Therapy

Do you find yourself emotionally triggered and not sure why? Do anxiety or fear show up when you are seeking connection? Do you wish you had the ability to feel secure?

If you answered yes to any of the above, I encourage you to explore Emotion-Focused Therapy or EFT.

EFT is a therapy model that focuses on fostering a secure attachment to yourself and others. EFT is rooted in the science of attachment theory. It encourages connection by helping people identify, process, and communicate the negative patterns that cause distress. When we lack awareness of our emotions or avoid unpleasant emotions, we can find ourselves alone and isolated.

EFT helps all people to:

  • Become more aware of their emotions
  • Welcome, allow and regulate emotions
  • Identify the source of unhelpful emotions
  • Describe emotions clearly and in detail
  • Communicate emotional needs effectively
  • Strengthen the attachment bond to self and others

Unlike other therapeutic approaches, EFT assumes that emotion can be a source of healing and works with specific emotions to increase adaptation. EFT is effective in treating individuals (EFIT), couples (EFCT), and families (EFFT). EFT assists in addressing a wide ranges of issues, from marital distress, anxiety, trauma, and self esteem.
